Why turn-based RPGs feel right on phones
There's a reason turn-based combat keeps thriving on mobile while it fades elsewhere. You can play a whole fight with one thumb, pause anytime, and pick up exactly where you left off. That fits how we actually use phones.
Playing Emberfall Chronicles on my commute drove this home. I'd think through a battle across three bus stops, and the game never punished me for setting it down mid-turn. No reflexes required, just decisions.
If you're new to the genre, start with something that teaches one mechanic at a time. Don't rush the early fights. The games that feel slow at first usually open up once you understand elemental weaknesses and positioning.
The best part is how well the stories hold up in short chunks. A good turn-based RPG is basically a novel with puzzles, and reading a chapter a day on the train is a lovely way to play one.
